County. The grade level served varies by organization, and many are
faith-based schools. There are also some home-school families in the county.

Beaufort Early Education Programs (BEEPS)
provides high quality preschool education and care for children from ages 3
to 5. The program involves phonetics-based instruction, early math and
science awareness, dramatic play, fine and gross motor skill development,
physical activity, socialization and self-help skills development. The
dedicated and highly trained staff provides a nurturing environment that
inspires creativity and enthusiasm for educational exploration. BEEPS is
committed to a low student to teacher ratio (10:1), which helps provide each
child with focused individual attention. Their goal is to see that each
child involved with BEEPS meets his/her potential and is prepared to excel
in a kindergarten program.  |

Crystal Coast School of
the Arts Crystal Coast School of the Arts is a professional
institution offering a variety of classes. Tap, jazz, ballet and ballroom
lessons are offered for all ages. Tiny Tots tumbling and dance instruction
is offered along with Mom & Me and Kindermusik programs. Excel Excel offers a variety of child-care services
with two locations in Morehead City and one location in Beaufort. The two
locations in Morehead City combine to offer child care for children from
ages 1 through 12. A pre-kindergarten program through the More at Four
partnership with the Carteret County Public School System is offered, as
is after-school care. Summer camps are offered for children from 3 through
12 years of age. The Beaufort location provides professional care for
children from 6 weeks of age through 12 years, including after-school and
summer camp programs. All three Excel sites are open from 6:15 AM to 6 PM,
and some transportation is provided. Gramercy Christian School Gramercy Christian School is a ministry of the Faith
Evangelical Bible Church. The school provides a traditional Christian
educational program for a growing number of students in kindergarten (at
least age 5) through 12th grade. Some transportation is provided. St. Egbert's Catholic School St. Egbert's Catholic School is affiliated with St.
Egbert's Roman Catholic Church. Located in Morehead City, the church
serves students from the surrounding area and provides a Catholic-based
education. St. Egbert's offers classes for students in kindergarten
through 5th grade. Newport Development Center The Newport Developmental Center provides training
for children from birth through young adult who need help because of
developmental and language disorders, mental retardation, autism,
emotional handicaps or learning disabilities. The program operates during
daytime hours Monday through Friday and also provides day care for
children.

Child CareChild care fees vary and are usually based on
the child's age, the number of hours the child spends at the facility or the
number of children in the same family attending the facility. Many
child-care centers provide transportation to and from school (if needed),
summer programs and extended hours on weekends. Carteret County and the
State of North Carolina regulate day-care homes and day-care centers through
the issuance of registrations and licenses. Regulations call for all such
facilities to meet health and safety standards. In the case of nonsectarian
child-care institutions, standards for children's learning and play programs

| Dropins
Childcare offers hourly drop-in care for children from ages 1 to 11 years.
No reservations are required, and children will be in the care of
well-qualified, experienced and first-aid–trained staff members. Dropins
also offers a preschool and an after-school care program, as well as a
school-age summer camp featuring field trips and a variety of activities.
The 7,000-square-foot play area is filled with age-appropriate toys, video
games, computers and activities. Dropins is open Monday through Thursday
from 8 AM to 8 PM, Friday from 8 AM to 10 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM
and from 5 to 11 PM. From 1 to 5 PM each Saturday Dropins can be rented for
birthday parties or other special events, and the staff will handle all the
details and all the clean up. Have a no-stress party by leaving the details

| First Presbyterian Church 1604 Arendell St., Morehead City (252) 247-2202 This church program offers morning preschool and
half-day kindergarten for children ages 3, 4 and 5. Call the office to find
out the times and months care is offered. Kids
Junction Kids Junction offers child care for children from two years old through eighth grade. Half-day preschool classes are provided for youngsters from two through four years old. After-school classes are offered for those in kindergarten through eighth grade. Kids Junction provides transportation for children from area schools.
My School Child Care My School serves youngsters from age 6 weeks through
age 10 and provides a preschool program, before- and after-school care and a
summer program. My School provides van transportation to and from the
Morehead City schools. The center is open from 6:30 AM to 6 PM.
500 Ann St., Beaufort (252) 728-5411 Ann Street United Methodist Church Preschool offers a
very popular program, and there is always a waiting list for enrollment. The
church facility has been providing child care since 1972. Ann Street offers
programs for children ages 2 through 5 from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Parents can
select the full-day program or the half-day program, and a special
pre-kindergarten program is offered. 201 Professional Park Dr., Beaufort (252) 728-2786 Beaufort Child Development Center serves children from
1 to 5 years of age, with a special focus on students who qualify for the
Head Start program. The center offers after-school care for children from
kindergarten through early elementary age. Summer programs are also offered.
The center is open from 6 AM to 6 PM. Beaufort Christian
Academy Beaufort Christian Academy offers day-care services
during the day for children ages 2 through 5, including pre-kindergarten and
kindergarten programs. After-school care is provided for students up to age
12. Western Carteret County The Sandbox Child Care In the heart of Newport, just off Old U.S. Highway 70
E, The Sandbox serves children from ages 2, if potty trained, to 9 with full
day-care service, morning preschool, and before- and after-school programs.
The Sandbox also offers a complete summer program. It is open from 6:30 AM
until 5:30 PM weekdays. St. James Day Care and Preschool Center St. James offers care for children from ages 6 weeks
to 11 years. A day-care program is offered during the day, and before- and
after-school care is provided. It's open 6:30 AM to 6 PM Monday through
Friday, and school buses from Newport Elementary School pick up and drop off
children at St. James. The center also offers summer programs. White Oak Christian Day Care In Bogue near Cape Carteret, White Oak Christian Day
Care offers day care and preschool activities for children from ages 1
through 4 and after-school care for children up to 5th grade. White Oak
Christian also offers a complete summer program. Swansboro Swansboro United Methodist Child Care and
Preschool This center accepts children from ages 6 weeks to 10
years. The younger children are offered day-care services, and there is an
after-school program for children up to the age of 10. Swansboro Elementary
School buses provide transportation for the children.

Nancy's Nannies Inc. Reliable, experienced sitters are available on the
Crystal Coast through this service. Nancy's Nannies is used widely and
offers responsible adult babysitters for in-home child care. This is a
trusted service for visitors staying in rentals and hotels. This service
provides sitters for a day, night, weekend or longer. Sitters can also be
arranged to care for children during special events, such as weddings.
